  • Popular streamer Emiru accosted at TwitchCon in California

Popular Twitch streamer Emiru was accosted by a man at TwitchCon 2025 during a meet-and-greet session with fans.

A video of the incident – which reportedly took place on Oct 17 – posted online shows the streamer interacting with a male fan when another man, in a grey plaid shirt, hurriedly approaches Emiru.

The man embraces her and appears to lean in for a kiss before a security staff member steps in and shoves him away.

The 27-year-old streamer, whose real name is Emily Beth Schunk, later said in an Oct 19 post on X that she was disappointed in how the security staff at TwitchCon “did not react and let the guy walk away”.

Emiru, who has nearly two million followers on streaming platform Twitch, added: “The security guard in the clip who reacts is my own security… My friend told me Twitch security were joking afterwards about how they did not even see what happened.”

She added that this was not the first time someone has assaulted her at an event and that this would be the last time she would be attending the streaming platform’s convention.

In an X post on Oct 18, Twitch said that “law enforcement and event security were on-site and responded to the incident”.

It added that the man was “immediately blocked” from returning to the TwitchCon premises, in contrast to Emiru’s account.

  • Chefs share secrets to making tasty, crispy French fries at home

Who invented them? That’s disputed, but probably someone in Europe. The Belgians have a strong claim, and today they love their fries so much that they are available on every corner, consume more than most nations and discuss them deeply at every opportunity.

How can you make fries at home that taste just as good as those from the takeaway? Two professional chefs share advice on how to enjoy tasty and healthy chips.

    Deep-frozen or home-made?

People who make chips at home usually opt for frozen products. “Frozen is convenient and quick,” notes Annegret Hager, a consumer protection advocate in Germany. They do not take much time to prepare as you just take the fries straight from the package and out them in the oven or deep fryer. Thanks to deep-freezing, they also keep for longer and are easy to store.

Just like the type of potato and fat used, you have no control over any additives, such as dextrose, however. “You have to keep testing until you find the brand you like,” Hager says. However, the flavour often cannot compete with home-made chips.

It is for this reason that frozen fries are out of the question for Jannik Degner, a food blogger and enthusiastic amateur chef in northern Germany. “Home-made fries taste so much better,” he says.

Since they are cut from fresh potatoes, they have a more intense taste and a better consistency. Also, the cook can determine which type of potato, cooking oils and seasonings to use. And naturally, you can cut your fries thick or thin, short or long, depending on your preference.

  • Michelle Yeoh invited to launch Visit Malaysia 2026

Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has been invited to attend the launch of Visit Malaysia 2026 in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, who spoke to the Ipoh-born Oscar winner on the phone while meeting her husband Jean Todt at the Global Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul, Turkiye, extended the invitation for her to join Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the launch in January next year.

Nga said Anwar would also officiate the lighting ceremony of Bukit Bintang’s Walk of Fame, which would symbolise the official launch of the tourism campaign.

He said Malaysia has become one of Asia’s most sought-after travel destinations this year, expressing hope that Yeoh would also help to promote Visit Malaysia 2026.

“By the end of 2025, tourist arrivals are expected to exceed 40 million, an 18.4% increase, surpassing Malaysia’s total population for the first time. Tourism now contributes 15% to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP), making it the second-largest source of national income,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 21).

“We must showcase the best of our culture, hospitality, and cleanliness. To achieve the RM150bil revenue target for Visit Malaysia 2026, every citizen should play a role as a tourism ambassador and help the world discover ‘Malaysia Truly Asia’,” he added.

In the cordial meeting with Todt, who is United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety, Nga discussed with him ways to strengthen road safety initiatives through improved urban planning and building design, aimed at reducing traffic accidents and protecting road users.

The former chief executive officer of Ferrari presented Nga with a signed copy of his latest book, The Silent Pandemic, while Nga gifted the couple a Malaysian batik necktie and scarf, symbolising Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.

  • Are you unintentionally training your dog to pull on the leash?

Every puppy owner dreams of relaxing walks with their dog calmly by their side on a loose leash. The reality is often quite different, as pulling on the leash is one of the most common problems for dog owners.

In fact, one study even found that leash pulling is even the most common cause of humans being injured by dogs.

“In most cases, this is self-inflicted because the dog learns through success,” says dog trainer and author Katharina Schlegl-Kofler.

When out for a walk, if the dog pulls towards a scent mark, the owner often follows automatically. “This unintentionally teaches the dog: If I pull, I get to where I want to go,” she explains.

Schlegl-Kofler recommends that with puppies and young dogs, owners should only take short walks on the leash. Depending on the situation, you can stop and wait until the leash becomes loose before continuing.

  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy does wear suits – meet the fashion designer behind his looks

Viktor Anisimov, one of Ukraine’s top fashion designers, first worked with the future president of Ukraine about 20 years ago. That was when Volodymyr Zelenskyy was part of a comedy troupe whose members all dressed in T-shirts and leather pants.

Anisimov coaxed them into trying classic suits.

So in January, when Zelenskyy’s wife wanted a new look for her husband, and her office reached out to Anisimov, he had a familiar thought. Suits.

It didn’t matter to him that Zelenskyy had repeatedly said he would not wear a suit until the war with Russia was over and that he had worn only military garb in solidarity with his troops.

Nor did it matter that the designer knew Zelenskyy did not care about clothing.

“He dressed for comfort,” Anisimov said in an interview in his workshop, surrounded by clothing racks.

But, he added, “They thought he might listen to me.”

Anisimov, 61, never expected to end up in the fashion world. He had planned to be a military man for the Soviet Union.

But these days, he not only has his own successful design business, but he is also the fashion consultant for Zelenskyy, fielding questions about what Ukraine’s leader planned to wear for his meeting with US president Donald Trump last week (Oct 17).

His answer: He just designs the clothes. The president picks what he wants to wear.

On Friday (Oct 17), Zelenskyy showed up at the White House in an outfit Anisimov had designed in the last few weeks.

  • Finger wrestling is more than just a game for these serious competitors

MEN trying to pull each other across the table and wrestling until their fingers bleed – this is the Alpine sport that is still reserved solely for men.

It involves two competitors, matched by age and weight, sitting across a table and hooking their middle finger into a leather loop.

Once the referee says go, they pull on the loop with their finger to try and drag their opponent over a marked line on the table.

The sport combines finger strength, technique, and a high pain threshold.

Behind each wrestler sits a catcher, to prevent the contestants from falling as they fight to establish who can manage to pull the other over the table to them.

Finger wrestling, known as “Fingerhakeln” in German, is a traditional sport that originated in the Alpine regions of Europe and is now practised in Bavaria and Austria. The sport is less common outside these Alpine regions.

This summer, at an ice rink in Mittenwald, Upper Bavaria, finger wrestlers fought for the title in the 70th championship, each seeking to pull each other across the table.

  • Keith Urban nodded to ‘relationship sacrifices’ in pre-divorce interview

Keith Urban acknowledged earlier this year that “relationship sacrifices” are part and parcel of music stardom – six months before Nicole Kidman begrudgingly filed for divorce.

When asked about the financial and physical concessions he’s had to make as part of his career, the 57-year-old Grammy winner told Entertainment Tonight in early 2025 that relationship hardships are also part of the deal. The outlet resurfaced the interview on Oct 16.

The country singer’s remark suggests there was tension in his 19-year marriage with the 58-year-old Oscar winner, well before the couple separated this summer.

News of the split broke late last month, followed shortly thereafter by confirmation that the Babygirl actress filed for divorce, and that they’d already signed a “Marital Dissolution Agreement.”

An insider told People at the time that Kidman had “been fighting to save the marriage,” but to no avail.

Urban’s friends, meanwhile, viewed the end of the relationship as “kind of inevitable.”

Kidman and Urban – who share teen daughters Sunday and Margaret – submitted a parenting plan and child support worksheet along with the divorce filing, and have also agreed to take co-parenting classes.

Weeks ahead of word getting out about the couple’s troubles, Kidman mused to Vogue, “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?”

  • Transplanted pig liver works in human

Doctors have transplanted a pig liver into a human in a world first.

The patient, a 71-year-old man, lived for almost half a year after the procedure.

The man’s own liver had irreversible scarring caused by a hepatitis B infection and liver cancer.

As a result, he was not eligible for a human liver transplant.

This is the first time that a liver from a genetically-modified pig has been transplanted in a human for therapeutic purposes.

Two cases have previously been reported in brain-dead patients as part of preparatory work.

Writing in the Journal of Hepatology, the researchers said they have found that genetically-modified pig livers “can support key metabolic and synthetic functions in humans”.

Scientists in China described how they implanted an auxiliary graft from a genetically-modified Diannan miniature pig.

The gene edits were designed to enhance organ compatibility with humans.

For the first month, the doctors found that the graft “functioned effectively”.

But on day 38, the graft was removed following complications linked to the transplant – a condition called xenotransplantation- associated thrombotic microangiopathy (xTMA).

The researchers reported that treatment resolved the xTMA, but despite this, the patient died 171 days after the transplant.
